David’s story
I have been a volunteer at the Manna Society since 2004. When I first moved to London, I was shocked to see homeless people on the streets. In my tiny town in Spain, this was not a normal occurrence and I wanted to help in any way that I could, and by giving up some of my time on a Saturday to help out at the Manna Centre in London Bridge, I felt that I was doing my bit.
The Manna Society provides takeaway meals, consisting of a hot dinner and a sandwich from 10.30am to 1pm, 7 days a week. On an average day we are providing 120 meals. About 25% of those using this service are rough sleepers, 30% approx are living in hostels or staying with friends and 45% are in rented accommodation. 34% have no income whatsoever. We also offer a housing and welfare telephone helpline and appointments to see an advice worker in person in our centre.
Please help me reach my goal to support the Manna Society.
