Richard’s story

When one of my oldest friends told me his father Peter Akehurst had developed Parkinsons disease not long after retirement, I was shocked and saddened for him and his family. Peter is battling this dreadful illness with the same verve he has lived his life, an utter inspiration to us all. When I heard the chosen charity for this years Round Britain Reliability Run was Parkinson's UK, everything fell into place. Myself and my steadfast co-driver Alex Marjoribanks, a fellow Triumph enthusiast, will be aiming to drive our 45 year old Triumph motor car non stop for 48 hours and 2400 miles, circumnavigating Great Britain. This will be a true test of aging men and aging machines…..and the weather gear on the car! Starting with the many hours of late night car prep in the garage, we will be knocking off the hard yards on the roads whilst battling the sleep deprivation of two days and two nights relentless driving….in addition to the ever looming prospect of a mechanical or human breakdown…! Our aim is to raise a minimum of £7500. We would be so very grateful for your support, however small or large that maybe, to try to reach our funding goal for this wonderful charity which does so much to improve the lives of so many sufferers. Thank you all.
In October 2025, 100 Triumph cars with an average age of 55 years old will take to the roads of Great Britain to raise funds for Parkinson's UK.
Parkinson's UK is the charity that’s here to support every Parkinson’s journey, every step of the way. We don’t wait for change, we make it happen. Campaigning for better health and care. Funding research into groundbreaking new treatments. Running life-changing support services.
The Club Triumph Round Britain Reliability Run has taken place since 1966 raising over £800,000 for UK charities. In 2025 we are hoping to make that £1million raised, but we need your help to do so.
Wonderful.org is 100% fee-free platform that is operated by volunteers in order to ensure every penny that is donated reaches the charity being donated to, unlike any of the alternative fundraising platforms which are businesses. As a result there are some technical limitations on how you can donate money depending on which bank you send funds from. Please don’t let this put you off, just let us know if you are having a problem and we can find a solution!
Our grateful thanks for your support, Alex and Rich
