Christopher’s story
Hello! Thank you very much for taking the time to read about my fundraising challenge. I have been a keen walker and runner since I was at secondary school when I took part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards. After a recent injury to my ankle caused by climbing mountains two days running in some dodgy boots, I badly missed the exercise which was a regular part of my life until then. About three weeks ago I started walking regularly again and have been getting a real buzz out of it in the midst of the British winter, so I decided to set myself a daily fundraising challenge to keep me motivated to walk or run each day for the next year. Rather appropriately, I will be fundraising for an amazing charity called Footsteps International.
Footsteps was founded in 2001 by Martin and Mary Print who have a passion for helping desperately poor children in Kenya, the country in which Martin grew up. They run the charity in their ‘spare time’ and visit Kenya regularly at their own expense to check on progress. They are helped by many, many wonderful people…
Footsteps International transform the lives of some of the world's neediest young people:
○ A home for street boys
○ Raising orphaned and abandoned
children
○ Strengthening education for children in
slum schools.
... and much more
How donations are used:
Donations are used for food, shelter, water, firewood, wages for locally employed staff, education and basic necessities like soap and toothpaste.
Our trustees visit our projects regularly to ensure that all donations go directly to the people who need help.
We do not pay our trustees or pay the cost of their air fares or hotel bills. And, we don't engage in expensive advertising campaigns.
We honour Jesus Christ’s command to “Love the Lord your God...and your neighbour as yourself.” We do not discriminate against any needy person on the grounds of their religion, ethnicity or nationality.
So this is the charity I am supporting and you can read much more about them on their website.
I decided 5km was a suitable daily distance as I can walk this in about 1 hour or run it in under half an hour. This means that I’ll be walking or running at least 1825 km in 2023. I’m aiming to raise £5 of sponsorship every day too which means my target is £1825. Anything above this will be a bonus! All funds (yes 100%) donated on this website will go directly to the charity with no platform fees and nothing taken off what the charity receives.
Please will you sponsor me just £5 (or any amount of your choice) for one of the days I will walk or run in 2023? Thank you so much!
Fundraising Targets
All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.
