Esthy’s story

According to think tank Resolution Foundation, the UK has the greatest levels of inequality (divide between rich and poor) in the continent of Europe.
As the cost of living crisis looms over us, those who are most affected are at risk of becoming homeless.
Homelessness is an extremely complex issue, and those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness are at high risk of being trafficked, abused, having severe and complex mental health problems, and/or difficulties with substance misuse.
I've been volunteering in the homeless sector for the last 6 or 7 years. From practical street outreach, to leading shifts at the Oxford Winter Night Shelter, to organising and running events at university to inform and discuss issues surrounding homelessness. This has drawn and led me to Edge Housing, a local organisation which provides housing and supported living for those who are homeless.
What I love about Edge is their individualised approach towards residents and that they do not shy away from addressing intersecting issues: As of this year (2022) Edge Housing opened their first women's house and thanks to some generous donations have worked alongside Asylum Welcome to be able to provide housing for those with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF). Both groups of people are often especially vulnerable and especially so when there is a lack of safe housing.
October 2022 will mark 10 years since Edge Housing was launched, and I'm running a half marathon for them because I believe in their mission: to offer a home, hope and a future to those homeless or vulnerably housed in Oxford and seeking employment.
Please join with me in supporting them!
