Tess and Sam’s story

As many of you know Sam and I spent the first three months of the year in Nepal, and now we are back in the UK we wanted to raise some pennies to support the fantastic charity that supported us to go out there, to enable them to continue the amazing work they do. Sam and I will be walking 150 kilometres over the month of October (this is obviously between, relocating back to the north of England, moving house and starting a new job!) we do love to keep busy! We will keep you all posted on our progress with lots of photos as well as logging our miles on Strava and here on our Wonderful page so you can see where we have explored! We would be super grateful if you could spare a few pennies to keep us going on our walks and to support this small but mighty charity and the lives they are changing.
A bit about the Charity and the amazing work they do:
We went out with a charity called Gorkha Development Scheme (GDS) who support their sister charity GDHDS which is run in Nepal by Nepali people in a town called Gorkha. Between the two organisations they work closely with the community to support education, health and wellbeing within the local and wider community. During our time there we got to be a little part of the amazing work they do and see the difference they make to the people who live and work in Gorkha. We lived with the most wonderful family who looked after us and taught us the ways of Nepali life. GDS offer so much more than a volunteering opportunity, they offer a family and a community with opportunities to grow, work and learn together with people living in the there to find sustainable ways to improve lives for people in Gorkha and the wider areas. We cannot put into words just how wonderful and life changing our trip was but I can say we smiled, laughed and found a family we did not know we had across the other side of the world, who we will love and treasure our memories with them forever. If you want to know a bit more about what we did you can head over to the website where both Sam and I have written reports about our experience and the work we did with tones more detail but in short I worked within a local school and Sam in the local college where we both built friendships with the staff and became a huge part of daily school life. There is limited resources for teachers and schools in Nepal and even less for children with special educational needs, so much of the work Sam and I did was about sharing skills and thinking of creative ways to support both students and teachers in creating a fun, inclusive and productive learning environment.
These amazing projects that GDS support out in Gorkha can only happen with support from lovely people like you! We saw first hand how even a small donation can make a huge difference in Nepal in supporting the schools, colleges, hospitals and local communities. If you have read this far, thank you and do pop over to have a look at the GDS website and read our reports http://www.nepal.co.uk/volunteers/volunteers-feedback/. And most importantly a BIG thank you in advance for donating you really are making a difference and we promise we will have our walking boots on stomping across the muddy fields of Yorkshire in no time at all!
