Douglas’s story
When the British Council twinned my children’s primary school (the Wyche) with Gofu Juu in Tanga, Tanzania back in 2007, I didn’t realise a lasting connection was being started for me too. Through the cultural exchange we became aware that there were many orphans there, living rough, some fainting from hunger in class. The Wychumvi charity was started to fund a small meal for each child. It made such a difference that attendance and attainment went up massively. I’m running the Oxford Half Marathon on 12th October 2025 to raise funds to keep the meals going.
Donations to this charity go an extraordinarily long way. Just £10 can pay for 200 cups of uji (a porridge-like drink), enough to feed 200 out of the 700 children at the school (or two classes worth!). All funds go to food provision (bar the money transfer fee).
Thank you so much for your support!
