We depend on trees to live.

They give us food, water, oxygen, cleaner air to breathe, and so much more.

A symbol of joy, peace and happiness, olive trees provide us not only simple food and shade but an entire livelihood.

Olive trees hold symbolic, agricultural, and economic meanings for Palestinian farmers. In a nation where almost one-third or 1.6 million people face food insecurity and do not have access to “nutritious food,” essential crops, like olives, are vital for community survival.

It should come as no surprise, then, that planting trees is a highly beneficial act of charity in Islam.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“There is no Muslim who plants a tree or sows seeds and then a bird, or a person, or an animal eats from it except that it is charity for him.” (Anas bin Malik)

Muslim Futures’ olive tree planting project in Palestine has helped, and continues to help, hundreds of farmers with thousands of tree plantings. These farmers are dependent on olive trees to provide for their families.

It is no secret that life in Palestine is far from simple, with small luxuries that we take for granted beyond the reach of the people, especially for Palestinian farmers who operate in less-than-ideal conditions.
