Rachel’s story
All in D&T and IGS would like to say thank you to Mike Perry, one of our wonderful D&T technicians, who is due to retire from IGS on Thursday 13th March. At the tender age of 79 this is officially his second retirement, having joined us in 2008 for 'just a couple of years to I have something to do'.
Mike's first career was at Rolls Royce as an Engineer. He worked in the drafting office hand creating technical drawings for various engine parts. He has personally worked on and tested many engine fan blades, which Rolls Royce is still known for today.
Mike has brought every skill with him to IGS, every JIG, test or machine set-up is completed with high precision and accuracy! He's also the kindest and most patient person, not only with the hundred's of obscure pupil enquires, but with the staff too - never a problem too difficult to solve for all our wonderful D&T technicians!
Outside of school, Mike supports several projects and local groups such as running with Skipton AC, supporting safety around Skipton's nightlife, supporting charities such as being a trustee for the Beamsley Project. Mike is also a busy family man, regularly meeting and holidaying with his family and using his spare time to look after his grandchildren!
You'll leave a hole in the D&T team and will be very much missed by us all - enjoy retirement number two!! From all of D&T & IGS!
