Alan’s story
Hi All. As you all know it is approaching 3 years since we sadly lost Alison and I've wanted to complete a challenging fundraising event in her memory.
You all know I like being outdoors, in the hills and hiking so I thought I would set myself a challenge based on my hobby and take on what's often deemed as 'Britain's Hardest Trek' - officially named the Cape Wrath Trail. I will be commencing this at the end of May 2023.
The Cape Wrath Trail involves trekking across approximately 240 miles of Scotland's wildest landscapes, a large proportion of it pathless. The route will include 14 days (approximately) of wild camping, numerous river crossings, marshlands and bogs, and lots of climbing, in some of the most remote places in the UK. My navigational skills will be put to the test, using a good old fashioned map and compass with the severely restricted phone signal. You can read more on the Cape Wrath Trail on their website here https://www.capewrathtrail.org.uk.
I've decided to choose a charity which resonates with us after the sudden loss of Alison in September 2020. Keirans Legacy - a local charity based in the North East of Scotland. This charity raises money for the provision of automated external defibrillators, education and awareness to communities and emergency services in Scotland. Since 2016, they have provided 220 defibrillators and saved 9 lives. https://www.keiranslegacy.co.uk/
Any donations would be extremely appreciated as even one defibrillator can save a life.
Thanks everybody and wish me luck. I'll keep you all posted on my journey.
Alan
