Laura’s story
On 27th June, I will be attempting a 10km (6.5 mile) open water sea swim in Albania. The route will take me from Hotel Liro in Vlorë, across the bay to ALDA Karaburun, located on the Karaburun Peninsula nature reserve. I am taking on this challenge to raise vital funds for our local homeless charity, AMAT UK.
Since 2010, rough sleeping in Great Britain has increased by 134%. With the added pressures of the cost of living crisis, the ongoing shortage of affordable housing and increased demand on mental health services, current projections suggest that the homeless population could double by 2041.
AMAT provides not only safe and stable accommodation but also person-centred support and guidance, and a route towards long-term independence for those experiencing homelessness. They also run The Hive, a Psychologically Informed Environment where all vulnerable adults in Medway can access a wide range of partner services and participate in programmes of social activities and events.
