Mary’s story
Sussex Steel is a charity created by individuals who are passionate about steelpan and committed to increasing the musical opportunities for people in Sussex and beyond. I have been a band member and supporter of Sussex Steel since it began in 2014 and have loved the challenge and pleasure that learning this musical instrument provides. Making and listening to music has many benefits including improved mental health and well-being, reduced anxiety and depression, improved memory and motor skills and is great fun! The goal is to make steelpan accessible to everyone, but to do that we need to provide and maintain the pans and equipment so that players have instruments to play.
The Challenge!
I, together with other band members, will be taking on the challenge of walking the 20 miles between Brighton and Littlehampton (where our adult bands are based) to raise funds to pay for repairing and replacing worn and broken equipment and to pay for tuning the steelpans. The past few years have been very difficult for small charities, particularly those in the Arts and we will appreciate any donations that you are able to give us.
Fundraising Targets
All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.
