Sam’s story
I hate running especially with other people but someone's got to get some funds in for the brilliant SkyWay who do some amazing work.
SkyWay work with young people and their families in some of the most disadvantaged communities in London. Many of the people SkyWay support live hand-to-mouth and were hit particularly hard by the lockdowns, high rates of covid infections and now the cost of living crisis! 80% of the families SkyWay engage now have to access food banks on a regular basis; lunch clubs are needed during holidays so children can eat; a need for mental wellbeing support is unprecedented; and access is needed to free positive activities after school and during holidays.
Any recovery will be slow and hard which is why the services SkyWay offers are vital. This included over 200 essential care packages each week during lockdown; laptops and learning resources for people isolating; online and face-to-face youth and community clubs; mental and physical wellbeing activities; and activities which help young people meet other people, gain skills, confidence, and have some fun.
The support SkyWay offers is accessed by more than 1,000 people each year but it costs money to run effective support services so raising as much money as possible is essential to make sure they exist and can continue. Sponsor me so I can get through the 13 miles knowing it's worth it.
