Bates Wells Foundation’s story
This page has been set up for the 2024 Christmas Foodbank Collection by the Bates Wells Foundation for 10 Queen Street Place, in collaboration with x+why, Jude's, Bower Collective, Seismic, London Interdisciplinary School and 42 London.
The Bates Wells Foundation (registered charity 1150321) intends to use the donations received as part of this appeal to provide grant support to local foodbanks. To achieve this, the Foundation intends that funds received will be split equally between Pecan (registered charity 801819) for Southwark Foodbank, Bow Foodbank (registered charity 1162185) and Shelter from the Storm (registered charity 1125575). We are pleased to confirm that the Bates Wells Foundation has agreed to match fund up to a total of £1,500 of donations from Bates Wells people in relation to cash donations on this page and the first two months of any new payroll giving.
The need
The UK is facing historically high levels of food bank need. At the same time, the rising cost of living means that many food banks have reported a fall in food donations received. This winter is expected to be their busiest ever as the need for their services continues to soar. To put this unprecedented demand into perspective:
- In the past five years, Trussell has seen demand for its food banks grow by 94%
- Trussell provided 3.1 million emergency food parcels, including 1.1 million parcels for children between April 2023 and March 2024
- In October 2023, 3.4 million households reported not having enough money for food
- In the UK, more than 1 in 5 people (around 14.4 million people) were in poverty in 2022, including nearly 3 in 10 children (around 4.2 million children)
The festive period will be difficult for so many, but in true B Corp collective spirit we can draw hope and encouragement from what we achieve together. So, please do get involved!
How to get involved
We’re running both a physical and an online collection for our partner charities.
If you’d like to get involved but can’t make a physical donation or would prefer to make a cash donation, please do so via this page.
If you’re a Bates Wells employee, make sure you leave your name so that your donation can be matched by the Bates Wells Foundation.
Last year, we donated approximately £3,316 to our partner charities. Let's make this year the biggest yet!
Thank you!
