Karina’s story
On Sunday 19 April, I’ll be taking on my first ever marathon: the 2026 Adidas Manchester Marathon! I’m raising vital funds for Move the Masses, a charity dedicated to the simple but life-changing power of a walk.
This year, my company, York Health Economics Consortium (YHEC), has chosen to support Move the Masses as our charity of the year. YHEC will match-fund up to £5,000 fundraised throughout 2026 - so for every £1 raised, the company will donate a further £1!

Why Move the Masses?
Move the Masses is an incredible local charity that makes walking a reality for the vulnerable in our communities. Through their Move Mates project, they provide walking buddies for people who would otherwise find it difficult or intimidating to leave their homes. The impact is profound: by providing confidence and moral support, their volunteers help improve mental and physical health, reduce isolation, and quite simply, make people feel happier.
