Giving fruit trees & crops to empower lives
Planting fruit trees and supporting village agriculture features high on our list of projects for sustainable livelihoods across hungry and impoverished communities.
Trees provide food and shade. They benefit the environment and reduce soil erosion.
Giving fruit trees and food crops are a simple and sustainable way to help feed and sustain the vulnerable in society. Enabling agriculture is essentially giving people a livelihood, which empowers them to work their way out of poverty.
How it Works
Once our fruit trees reach maturity, they become a life-long source of food for a poor family.
As a source of income they go a long way when nurtured with care.
Families are able to sell or trade their surplus fruit and fruit products to buy other foods and needful items.
£10 - With £10 we can gift 1 olive tree to a family in Palestine. Once an olive tree has reached maturity, it can become a life-long source of olives and olive oil. Families can sell or trade the surplus olives and olive oil to buy other foods and needful items.
£12 - This is the cost of gifting 4 fruit trees in Kashmir. Here, the climate can accommodate everything from apples and oranges to peaches and guava. £12 covers the cost of the your gifted tree, as well as transporting and planting.
£20 - With £20 we can buy and pay for the cultivation of 4 fruit trees in a remote village in South East Asia. With your donation we source a sapling that will thrive best in the local climate, and will bear fruit that is most suitable to the needs of the local community.
£50 - Provides farmers with the necessary crop seeds and tools for planting and cultivation, as well as fertilizer, across Pakistan and Kashmir.
£100 - With £100 we can gift a small plantation of 10 olive trees to a family in Palestine, allowing self-empowerment and a sustainable livelihood.
£150 - Allows Muslim Futures to gift a small orchard of 50 fruit trees in Kashmir, allowing self-empowerment and a sustainable livelihood for generations to come.
£500 - With a generous donation of £500, Muslim Futures can gift a sustainable livelihoods program for widows in Africa, based on tree planting and agricultural cultivation
What We Do
Muslim Futures supports and runs the Trees for Life project in remote villages, across countries affected most by hunger and poverty. The fruit trees we plant vary depending on the region, climate and natural diet of the people who will benefit. In Gaza we gift olives. In Pakistan, the trees we plant range from mangos to apricots.
Below is a list of the kind of trees we are able to gift.
- Olive
- Mango
- Papaya
- Grapes
- Apples
- Orange
- Pomegranate
- Apricots
- Peaches
- Guava
In some cases, farmers in the villages we work with will require seeds instead of trees, as this suits their needs based on the local conditions. Often the seeds are for maize or vegetable crops. Along with the seeds we also provide tools for planting and cultivation, as well as fertilizers.
