Patricia’s story
Ashdon Jazz Academy (AJA) was founded in 2015 by Trisha Muirhead, a year after the tragic loss of her 14-year-old daughter, Ashdon, who took her own life. Ashdon, known as 'Jazz,' faced peer pressure, school aggression, and the societal expectations placed on young women, which ultimately led to her tragic passing. In her memory, Trisha established AJA to support young women facing similar challenges. Since then, we’ve helped over 500 vulnerable girls through 1:1 mentoring, workshops, retreats, and more, empowering them to build confidence and navigate their struggles.
AJA has also connected with young women in Gambia, where we maintained communication for three years, pairing pen pals from our organization with girls there. This led to a transformative trip to Gambia, where we furthered our outreach and strengthened these global connections.
As we celebrate AJA’s 10th anniversary this year, we are raising funds for a gala to reflect on our achievements and continue our vital work. Your support helps us empower young women both locally and globally.
