Following on from the successful completion of the 2021 Cotswold Way Challenge, I am taking on the challenge of walking the 'Easter 50 Ultra Challenge' to raise funds to support some of Sri Lanka's poorest people through the amazing charity, Assist Resettlement and Renaissance.
The impact your support can have is immense. In 2021, the collective donations raised directly funded 2,100 cataract operations, transforming the lives of Sri Lanka's poorest people. This year, your support would help provide constant access to clean, uncontaminated water supplies for families and school children across country. And donations will be kindly matched by my employer, so your £5 will turn to £10, £100 to £200; an amazing offer to help support more people across Sri Lanka.
Many of Sri Lanka's poorest people do not have regular and safe access to uncontaminated running water. This gives rise to a range of health, hygiene and hydration issues, which in turn adversely affect both livelihoods and education. Many children are missing school because of contaminated water illnesses and many teenage girls are missing even more of their education due to inadequate sanitary facilities at school when menstruating. At a time of severe downward economic pressure on Sri Lanka’s most disenfranchised people, the poorest families don’t have the means to cultivate sufficient fruit and vegetables for their own use or to sell surplus yields to generate livelihood income without easy access to running water.
I am fundraising to build wells for families and to provide uncontaminated water supplies for schools without. The aim is to transform the health of beneficiaries, teach them to grow crops for their own use, and to sell, and to keep their children in school. For reference, a typical shallower dug-out well currently costs about £500 and a deeper tubed borehole well costs approximately £1000. Your support can go a long way - please do wish me luck!
Thank you very much in anticipation of your support
