Grant’s story

The Marathon Des Sables (MDS), is arguably the toughest footrace on earth. 250km on the sand, self supported, camping, in heat exceeding 50 degrees. Having run a double marathon in the Sahara previously, this is the next step…

I owe my passion for sport and cross country running to my school PE teacher, Mr Kent (Andy). Often, we don’t know the influence we have on people. Andy was/is a wonderful teacher that I learned a great deal from. Experiences I had in school gave me a great foundation for my adult life. (Thank you mr Kent and all my lovely teachers)
I was saddened to learn that Andy’s son (Ed) passed away, unexpectedly at the age of 13 from an asthma attack. Having 2 young children of my own, it’s every parents worst fear.
After contacting Andy recently, I learnt about his family’s tragedy and subsequently, the Ed Kent Trust. https://edkenttrust.org/
Please see the above link to learn about all the wonderful things they do to support young people.
Running the Marathon des Sables gives me the opportunity to repay (in some way) the patience, motivation and inspiration that Andy gave me as a youngster, in being able to help raise awareness and support the Ed Kent trust.
If you are able and willing, please support the trust by donating as little or as much as you see fit.
