Marsha’s story

In May 2021. Ean(my husband) lost his voice. The doctor gave him medication which didn’t help. Our doctor then referred him to Mr Sheppard at Fairfield hospital Bury. One of his team called on 20th June 2021. She rang the house phone instead of Ean’s mobile. It took her another 2 weeks to call again and diagnosed Ean with heart burn and proscribed gaviscon. I wasn’t happy and I got in touch with Mr Andrew Birzgalis at Manchester Spire. He suspected cancer. He did a biopsy which confirmed that Ean had stage 3 vocal cancer. He then referred Ean to Miss Penney ( one of professor Homer’s team) Miss Penney operated in August 2021 but didn’t manage to remove all the cancer.
In September 2021 Ean started to have radiotherapy/ chemotherapy a week into his treatment he was admitted back Ito MRI to have a tracheostomy fitted. In December 2021 having had his treatment he had a cat scan which still highlighted something. Then in March 2022 he was told he was free from cancer. Unfortunately by August 2022 the cancer was back. Professor Homer and his team removed Ean’s voice box in October 2022. He is now cancer free and awaiting having a speech valve fitted.
We cannot THANK Professor Homer and his team enough. So when Professor Homer told me he was doing the marathon Des Sables in April 2023 covering 251km in 6 days in Morocco’s Sahara Desert, I thought, what can I do to help raise funds for Oasis Cancer Trust ( head and neck). I decided that in April I would walk 10km a day totalling 300km to help raise funds and awareness for this wonderful cancer charity.
PLEASE DONATE WHAT YOU CAN. NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL EVERY PENNY HELPS.
Thank you in advance for your kind donation and support.
