Martin’s story
Most people know me through Legasee and the work i've been doing for the past 14 years to film and share first-hand accounts of British military veterans.
Local Heroes is my new venture.
It’s a new educational programme that teaches young people how to record and preserve the stories of people in their own communities while developing confidence, communication, leadership and employability skills. By learning how to conduct oral history interviews, young people discover that the people around them have experiences worth listening to and thanks to Legasee's archive, they have the power to preserve them.
To help make this a reality, this August, myself and a small team of supporters will be taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in 24 hours.
This challenge is about more than climbing mountains. All monies raised will help me grow Local Heroes and develop resources for primary schools, and other youth organisations. I have piloted with a couple of secondary schools, but want to ensure that more young people can benefit from the programme in the years ahead.
If you are able to support me, thank you. Every donation, no matter how large or small, will help us bring Local Heroes to more young people and more communities across the UK.
Every community has stories worth preserving. Every young person should have a role in preserving them.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether my target is reached, not reached or exceeded.
