Joanne’s story
We are all deeply saddened by the loss of Jay Luke, colleague, teammate and cherished friend. Born in Bristol and later making his home in Australia with his wife Paula, Jay loved being involved in the sport of triathlon and was a familiar voice at many races in the UK, Australia and beyond.
Whether it was chasing times and having fun in training and racing, or cheering on athletes on the microphone, his loss is felt widely and deeply by the community of people who knew him, loved him and had the privilege of being called across the finish line by him. Jay wasn’t just a voice on a microphone at a race, he was part of the heart of the finish line of every race he announced. His energy, vibe and unforgettable presence made race days truly special for athletes and spectators alike from the first to the final finisher.
To honour Jay’s legacy, we are raising funds and supporting a cause he would have loved; the Brownlee Foundation. Founded by Olympic triathletes Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, the Foundation inspires children across the UK to enjoy sport and lead active lifestyles. We hope by supporting the Foundation Jay’s legacy will live on in inspiring a generation of young athletes to find joy in a lifelong love of sport, carrying forward the energy, encouragement, fun and inspiration Jay gave to so many, whilst also providing young athletes the opportunity to experience their own triathlon finish line and embrace the joy of participating in a sport we all love.

Jay, your finish line came far too soon, but your legacy will carry on in our hearts and in every cheer and every race, your presence is deeply missed and our memories treasured.
