David’s story
I’m taking on the Run to the Sea Bournemouth 50km to support Alzheimer Café - Isle of Wight, a charity that has been helping people affected by dementia for many years.
Having grown up on the Isle of Wight, I know how strong the sense of community is there. It’s a place where people look out for each other, and that’s exactly what Alzheimer Café - Isle of Wight represents.
They provide vital support to those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, as well as their families and carers. Through regular cafés, community meet-ups, and welcoming spaces like Parklands, they offer understanding, connection, and practical help to people who often feel isolated or overwhelmed.
What stands out about their work is the sense of community they create. They give people a place where they can talk openly, feel supported, and spend time with others who truly understand what they’re going through. That kind of support makes a real difference.
Because of my connection to the island, supporting this charity feels personal. By taking on this 50km challenge, I want to give something back to a community that means a lot to me, and help ensure this support continues for those who need it most.
Every donation will go directly towards supporting their work and helping them continue to be there for people across the Isle of Wight.
