Southend’s story
Almost everybody we know is finding things a bit harder this year. Throughout 2023, donations of food have struggled to keep up with the rising need across our community and we've been spending around £10,000 a month to make sure that we have enough food to share. So that's our target: 10k for the winter after 10 years of winter getting harder and harder for many of our neighbours.
As a foodbank we understand the impact that comes from the community when we all contribute a little bit: when you give a box of cereal and someone else gives a litre of UHT milk, and our volunteers give their time, a family coming to the foodbank can make breakfast. When you drop pasta into the collection point, others give pasta sauce; you give tins of chilli, others add rice. And together we share meals that people can make at home.
£10k sounds like a lot to raise - it's more than we've ever tried to raise in one go before. But if you can give £10, then we'll get there together and Southend Foodbank will keep being here for those who need us. If you're a UK taxpayer, when you add Gift Aid Southend Foodbank will receive £12.50 for every £10 you give, boosting the impact of your donation.
