Seth’s story

It is time for me to try and tackle a burning ambition of mine- to hike the Cornish part of the South West Coast Path in one go. I always told myself that I would do this before I turn 40....and now my time is running out! So, next month I shall be embarking on the challenge and raising some money for charity at the same time.Community Action Nepal is a charity that brings together two things that are very dear to me; agriculture and the Himalaya. The UK based charity was founded by the mountaineer Doug Scott- the first ever Briton to summit mount Everest. It supports projects to help some of the poorest people on the planet; the remote mountain communities of Nepal. The livelihood and agriculture program provides the mountain communities with horticultural/agricultural training, seeds and tools & equipment. Importantly, it uses techniques that avoid reliance on inputs such as agrochemicals and fertilisers. Instead, it focuses on techniques that deliver nutrient-dense produce by improving soil health, simultaneously benefitting the wider environment and biodiversity.Giving the mountain communities the guidance, tools and know-how helps to improve health & wellbeing through improved nutrition. It provides much needed food security and furthermore it empowers people to develop income-generating enterprises. As you may know, I really enjoy hiking. It was whilst trekking in the Himalaya that I first discovered sea buckthorn. This experience altered my life and resulted in me planting my own orchard and founding the Cornish Seaberry Company . Nepal is a wonderful country which has a special place in my heart, so this trek is an opportunity for me to give something back. Here in Cornwall we are fortunate to have one of the best long-distance footpaths in the UK along our beautiful coastline, so I cannot wait to get my hiking boots on and set off!Over 35% of children under 5 in Nepal suffer from chronic malnutrition. We are in the very fortunate position of taking food and nourishment for granted. Please give generously. Thanks very much, seth
