Katharine’s story
In October I'll be taking part in an 80-meter abseil down East London's iconic Mittal Orbit! This will be done in the same style as elite soldiers who use this abseil technique to navigate inaccessible terrains and as I'm someone whose always up for a challenge (in 2019 I trekked 55km through the remote Iceland highlands) this is something new and exciting! Although I am also slightly terrified, I'm not scared of heights but if anyone has seen me at Go Ape you know I have a slight initial trust issue with ropes supporting me as I dangle through the air...
I'm raising money for a great charity; the Legasee Educational Trust for Veterans. They're a team of volunteer film makers, writers, designers and storytellers whose commitment is for future generations to learn about our military history through the personal recollections of the men and women who witnessed it first hand. Both of my grandparents served in the Second World War and hearing my Grandma's stories when I was younger from her and through my mum now has been remarkable. This fundraiser will help to continue their work and improve the way they deliver education in schools and universities.
Any support, no matter how big or small, to help me reach my goal would be greatly appreciated :)
And I will be sharing the, no doubt embarrassing, photos of my attempt at abseiling down!
