Austin’s story
This March, our Group is taking on a proper challenge together: Climb the Eiger. This is a sponsored walking event designed to get everyone involved to raise vital funds for our Scout Group while having a fun day out.
Date: Saturday 14th March 2026
The Challenge
The North Face of the Eiger in Switzerland rises 1800 metres tall and is one of the most famous climbing routes in the world. We won’t be climbing it, but we will be matching the height in an easier way!
Participants will walk from Newsome Scout HQ (Base Camp) to Castle Hill (Summit) and back, working in teams to build up the total height of 1800 metres. One round trip equals part of the climb, and every lap counts toward the total!
Why “Climb the Eiger”?
This Summer, our Explorer Scouts (14-18 year olds) are travelling to Kandersteg, Switzerland, for 11 days of Scouting adventure, challenge and international friendship. Their planned activities are expected to include walking from Kleine Scheidegg to Grindelwald, just below the North Face of the Eiger itself!
What will the fundraising be used for?
Quite simply, fundraising like this supports a fun and varied program and helps to keep Scouting affordable and accessible to everyone.
